
Northshore Arts in Bloom features an international one-act playwriting contest in three divisions: Adult, Collegiate, and Teen. The winning playwright in each category will be awarded a staged reading of their play at the event, two complimentary Full Bouquet tickets, and hotel accommodations.
This year's staged readings will be held on Sunday, April 30th from 2-4 p.m. at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Annabella Buckle is a junior at C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. She is actively involved in National Honors Society, Astra Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Growing for Good, the Talented Arts Program, varsity softball, and AP and honors classes. She hopes to attend Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge beginning in the fall of 2024 and major in psychology.
DeJuan ‘DJ’ James is an actor, director, and playwright from Hammond, Louisiana. He has been acting in theatre for nearly a decade, and fairly recently got into writing and directing. His first produced works were helmed in partnership with Alpha Psi Omega, the theatre organization at Southeastern Louisiana University. The works were ‘Reboot’ and ‘Break a Leg!’. His most recent work was ‘The First’, directed by his good friend, Taylor Meng. He hopes you enjoy ‘Highs and Lows’, as it is loosely inspired by true events.
Many of my plays have been produced or have received staged readings. Four plays – A.R@Uni.Gov, The Kindness of Strangers, The Canterbury Tales Revisited, and Sense & Insensibility – have been published. My plays have been produced in theaters across the country, from New York to Los Angeles, as well as in Canada, Mexico, India, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Several short screenplays have been produced as well as a feature length film I helped write, titled The Donor Conspiracy. A number of radio plays have been produced and broadcast nationally.
